I have a system.
Eat a snack around 10:00am (99% of the time it's a banana).
Eat another snack before working out (today it was a 100 calorie cheese nip pkg).
Work out, then eat lunch.
Today I had a turkey sandwich.
Then I ate my kiwi and started in on my grapes. At that point my stomach starts doing somersaults.
So what do I do? I go online and search for the fructose to glucose ratio in kiwis & grapes. Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure enough, they're both >1. We're aiming for <1. Granted, their ratios are only 1.06 and 1.04 respectively, but apparently it's enough. Bananas are 0.84. And apples? The fruit that led me to these stupid fructose posts?? They're 2.83. Uh huh. Yeah.
Let's see, what are my options...prunes, prune juice, dates, apricots, plums, sweet potato (okay, I can handle this one), & figs. Great. Looks like I'll be venturing outside of my taste bud comfort zone.
Sorry, I'll try to be more pleasant in my next post. :o)
Sorry, that is so frustrating. It's hard enough to eat healthy without worrying WHICH fruits you can have. Have you tried LARA bars?? I think they're made in Boulder but you should be able to find them at most health stores (and probably grocery stores too- that's where I get mine). Anyway, they are completely vegan and raw and most are made with fig but they have all different flavors. I've only had the lemon and cashew but I really liked them.
ReplyDeleteDried apricots are WONderful. I can plow thru a bag of those in no time.
ReplyDeleteColie, whats this you have...?! I am so very sorry. I can tell you the guessing game is the worst. MAybe there is a helpful handbook that will help you navigate through this.
ReplyDeleteSOrry you are having to go through this, its the pitts...I know! =c(
HG: I think I have tried LARA bars--I usually try to stay away from bars because they're so expensive, but I'll probably suck it up & get them anyway--running out of options at this point.
ReplyDeleteVB: I LOVE dried mangoes, so maybe dried apricots will also do the trick. Can't say I've ever had an actual apricot.
ALLO: I self diagnosed myself with fructose malabsorption. At first I thought it was gluten related, but apples were what really triggered it, so I figured it couldn't be. And I haven't seen any real good books out there on it. :oP All the information I've been getting has been from online forums with people in a similar situation. And yes, I TOTALLY empathize with your gluten woes.
They are pretty expensive and I don't have them all the time but when they go on sale, I usually buy a box (some places give you an extra discount for buying a full box too). Anyway, hope you find something that works and doesn't cost a fortune.
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to do Dr.Fuhrman's Eat to Live program and it gets so expensive b/c it's mostly organic- basically just tons of fruits, veggies, lentils and brown rice.
Genetic comparison: grapes only trigger it for me if I eat a ton, but if you remember, neither Jono or myself can stop eating grapes at anywhere less than a ton. ...which is why mom always bought 2 bags of grapes, one for us to eat while unloading the groceries, and one for everyone else when we were both sick.
ReplyDeleteI second apricots. Look up pineapple, it might work too, but the dried pineapple is usually covered with sugar.
