Thinkin' about movin'

There are several vacancies in my fiance's office so we had high hopes that he might get promoted in the near future. Unfortunately, that won't be happening. They've apparently decided to get rid of those positions for good. I'm sure it has a lot to do with the recession. So now we have no reason to stay here after I graduate. What a relief that is! I mean, I don't mind it here, but I'm certainly not going to stay if we have no reason.

Out of pure curiosity, I decided to compare housing markets here and the Raleigh/Durham area. In case you're curious why I searched the Raleigh/Durham area, my fiance said there's a position open at NC State. At any rate, it's ridiculous the amount of house you can buy in Durham compared to western NC. The deal is, there hasn't been much development here. And by *here* I mean immediately surrounding Sylva. I'm not saying there hasn't been tremendous development in other areas of western NC. So the houses for sale are old and incredibly dated! And people don't update! It's ridiculous. While in Durham, for the same amount of money, you can get a nice house totally updated, move-in ready. :oP I will say in defense of houses out here is that you can generally get land attached whereas in Durham you get a little bit of yard with the house. An important thing to consider when you own two dogs.

So yeah, thinking about moving is exciting even though I hate packing and unpacking. I just hope I'll be able to sell this house when the time comes.

  1. A colleague of mine moved from the UW to NC State. He and his family love it there, and his wife has been able to take it easy finding a job because the cost of living is so reasonable. If Chris does interview there, look up Tommy Greene. He's a great guy.
