The new challenge...

Check out the link to the right to see what I'm starting tomorrow!

  1. Sorry, but I think the push up is the most useless exercise out there. It's a completely unnatural movement. Okay, unless you're an offensive lineman. All this does is get you moving. If you want to impress me with strength, help me carry this box of stuff from my office to my car...

  2. The popularity of the push-up is merely due to it being the most convenient upper body workout. The pull-up is second only because not everyone can do a pull-up to begin with and you do need something to pull up on. (very rarely do you not have ground within 0" of you)

There are few practical uses for the push-up movement itself. Getting up from the prone position after firing a rifle is the only one I can think of off the top of my head. However, the benefit is from working your pecs, deltoids, and triceps. It's also a good core workout, but the plank is probably better for that.

Odds are, the person that can do a crap-load of push-ups and a butt-ton of pull-ups can carry your box of stuff quite easily. ...and it's logistically easier than moving your stuff back and forth just to get a workout.

  3. I thought it was pretty cool that I felt like I had done crunches last night instead of pushups!

  4. Thank you. That's what I was saying, in fewer words. "There are few practical uses for the push up movement itself." Exactly.
Now even Kenan is in on this, and now even HE thinks I'm weird. Ugh.

  5. So I've had time to read through the program, (yes, I'm here at work) and the jumps from week 4 to 5 and 5 to 6 are pretty big. You may need to repeat weeks 4 & 5 a couple of times to move on.

Oh, and I thought of another use for the push-up movement. Getting up in volleyball after diving for a ball... :)

  6. Now I'm on week 3. Yes, I had to repeat a couple of days. My excuse is that I am doing this in addition to my regular lifting routine, so when I'm already sore the pushups suck.
