I'm not sure if I've discussed this before, but Athena's been leaking urine at night. Bloodwork was done (to rule out effects of Rimadyl) as well as a urinalysis. Nothing, but we put her on antibiotics for 10 days just to make sure. The thought was better to do antibiotics for a while to see if that takes care of it rather than putting her on another chronic medication. Honestly, I hadn't checked her since the end of the antibiotics to see if they were working. Then this morning I woke up, thought it was strange that she wasn't in her bed, and then saw that her bed was soaked! :o( I'd do a sadder face if I could. It's especially disappointing since she had only been leaking a little bit--last night was the first night that was a major event. Part of me holds out hope that the cat decided to make it her litter box.
The next question becomes do I put her on another medication or just buy washable doggie diapers? The easiest thing would be the medication--but it wouldn't be easy on the wallet.
Poo.
Omg, she is so cute! Poor girl, that sucks. Are the pills really expensive? If it's only overnight, maybe the diaper would be worth a try.
ReplyDeleteHow long has she been on the rimadyl? I don't know much about it but but when I was at a dog friendly festival out here, someone was handing out flyers to know the dangers of rimadyl and avoid using it with your dogs. They had a website and this (http://www.srdogs.com/Pages/rimadylfr.html) might be it but I' not sure.
Like I said, I really don't know much about it but it's worth checking out. Good luck- hope she gets better soon.
Awww, your poor sweet baby! I'd say the medication would be worth it in the long run. Would you really want to clean doggie diapers everyday?
ReplyDeleteOh Thena! I'm sorry Cole. I hope she gets to feeling better. Sending my love.
ReplyDeleteHow many times do I have to tell you? It's not "Poo." It's just pee! Thank goodness!
ReplyDeleteShe's an amazing girl and we'll just deal with her little problems. :o)
AND LOOK AT THAT FACE! Love you! ( and her.)
I decided to go with the pills. Yeah Cass, cleaning doggie diapers definitely didn't sound appealing. It turned out to be $47.50 for 2 month's worth, so I can live with that. And as far as the rimadyl goes, I know about the side effects--we do bloodwork every year just to make sure everything's still fine & dandy. So far so good. One of the vets I used to work for had her german shepherd on rimadyl for years--never had a problem with it. It's cheaper than the other "safer" stuff, so you just have to decided what's best for you & your dog. I chose the rimadyl obviously. :o)
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to go with the pills :) And I looked on the website after I sent it to you. I think rimadyl helps a lot of dogs, you just have to be be aware and look out for any bad reactions.
